So, I've been reading The Satanic Verses. I'm halfway through. For me at least, it's shaping up to be a pretty good, but ultimately disposable, book. It's well-executed, and the characters ring true, and the agenda is to explore humanity and various themes (as opposed to idle entertainment), but I'm not getting any x-factor here, for whatever ( Read more... )

I kind of like Great Divide's Hibernation Ale. It's a reddish light brown. Subdued, earthy, a little grainy, a little malty. Hops can be detected without too much trouble if you look for them, but it's generally mild. I've had the Porter from the Bell's brewery two or three times now, and all I can ever remember about it is that it's very roasty and that I'd most certainly have another any time. I'd hate to make the error of calling it good but non-descript out of my own ignorance. I think my problem is that most of the porters I've been finding have had coffee ( Read more... )

I tried Pepsi Jazz the other day - both flavors, Strawberries and Cream, and Black Cherry/French Vanilla. Being seen with the product was a bit anxiety-inducing. It's potable, and it has a 20% ABV, as advertised. Anything about this beverage beyond that would have been a bonus.

There was no such bonus to be found in Sheffield Tawny Port, though I find myself inebriated and thus unable to complain.
